Early intervention and specialized care replace obstacles with opportunities at Special Care.  In the midst of what can be overwhelming challenges, we help children with special needs and their families discover what they can do.

A United Way partner agency, Special Care offers the best affordable, year-round early childhood education, therapy, and after school and summer programs for children with and without special needs

Two-thirds of the children participating in our program have special needs due to a wide-variety of conditions, including  spina bifida, visual and hearing impairments, autism, attention deficit disorders, Down syndrome, and other physical, mental, and multi-disabling conditions.  Children following typical developmental patterns comprise the other one-third of our population.

Inclusive classrooms and on-site therapy services offer opportunities for children of all abilities to reach their full potential.  A United Way partner agency accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), Special Care is licensed by the Department of Human Services to serve children between the ages of 6 weeks and 21 years.

Programs include year-round direct care, early childhood education, and before/after school programs, as well as on-site therapy services.  In addition, Special Care’s Autism Clinic provides one-on-one therapy for the growing number of children in our program with autism spectrum disorders.  All of Special Care’s therapists and teachers work together for effective carry over between therapy and classroom environments.
